Ginger Moo is all about creativity and opportunity and the gallery we occupied from June 2009-2011 was a logical extension of this. We set up shop in Crawley’s County Mall with a view to putting art squarely in the middle of a very commercial environment. It was something different, but also a there to normalise the idea that art is for everyone, art doesn’t have to be divorced from ‘real’ life. Making and enjoying creativity shouldn’t be exclusive and only for the rich and privileged, it is for all of us if we want it, and there are enough artists in the world with diverse styles and interests for there to be something for everyone.
The question we were always asked is “Why Crawley?” Well, why not? Crawley is considered by some to be a bit of a creative desert, but we know better. Most of the work on display in the gallery was created by local artists, designers and makers; and yet there had been nowhere for these artists to show and sell their work.
Ginger Moo Gallery was a warm and welcoming atmosphere with a great variation of work from an average of 30 different Artists, Sculptors, Photographers, Illustrators and Craftspeople at any one time. All of the work on display wass either a one-off original or a limited edition – so work that would hold their value and even appreciate in value.
Art need not be exclusive – it’s not just for those who can afford it. Prices in the gallery ranged from under £10 to £2000 and we had schemes to make work in the higher price bracket affordable.
See our slideshow above for images of our lovely gallery, and below is a video of our 1st Birthday Party. We really miss it there and we’re hoping to have a permanent home again soon!
We celebrated the Gallery’s first birthday in style with a big bash. The wonderfully colourful and ambient space was filled with our artists, friends and supporters. Entertainment was a fantastic two set performance by the brilliant up and coming band My Tiger My Timing. See the video below.
